Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera Seeks Permission To Travel Abroad

The Colombo High Court today granted permission to Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thero, whose passport was seized, to travel abroad.

Dhammaloka Thero had requested to release his passport and sought permission to travel abroad through an application filed yesterday.

The Thero, who was indicted for the alleged illegal possession of an elephant calf without a valid permit, was granted bail by the Colombo High Court on June 20. The Attorney General had filed indictment against Dhammaloka Thero with respect of the case on 11 May.

Dhammaloka Thero of Alan Mathiniyaramaya Temple in Polhengoda has however categorically denied allegations leveled against him with regard to incident and has maintained that the elephant was abandoned at the temple following a pageant held in 2014.
