Duminda Silva files appeal against his death sentence
Former UPFA MP Duminda Silva who was sentenced
to death over the murder of former Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman
Premachandra has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court calling for his release,
Ada Derana reporter said. A lawyer who appeared on behalf of the former MP had
filed the appeal with the Registrar Office at the Colombo High Court this afternoon.
Earlier, three convicted individuals in the case, Anura Thushara de Mel,
Chaminda Ravi Jayanath and D.M. Sarath Bandara had also filed appeals on 20
September. Duminda Silva and four other suspects were sentenced to death over
the murder on September 8. Four persons including Bharatha Lakshman
Premachandra died following an exchange of gunfire at Walpola, Mulleriyawa on
the day of the local government election on October 8, 2011.
