confirmed information has been received as yet on the whereabouts of the
youth who disappeared after being taken into custody by the Hambantota Police.
Deputy
Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana told the media on September 14 that
police teams looking into the disappearance were ordered to conclude
investigations and submit their reports within the next two days.
The
police stated on Wednesday that the youth had disappeared after being
taken into custody.
Nine
days have passed since twenty-year-old G.G. Gayashan disappeared.
According
to his relatives, the youth, a resident of the Bandagiriya area in Hambantota,
had disappeared after being arrested by Hambantota Police on the suspicion of
having stolen paddy.
The
police later said the suspect had escaped from police custody.
While
a special police team was appointed to investigate the disappearance, a team
appointed by the National Police Commission is also looking into the incident
